Ernest H. Ehling, Jr., is Of Counsel in the firm’s Mt. Laurel, New Jersey office and is a member of its Real Estate, Estates & Trusts, Business Succession Planning, Bankruptcy & Creditor’s Rights, Taxation, Litigation, and Alternative Dispute Resolution practice groups. He brings his unique background in law, tax, and finance to his practice in these areas.
Ernest practices in the areas of commercial real estate, estate and trust planning and administration, estate and trust litigation, and taxation. Ernest also represents business and corporate clients in a variety of business litigation matters, including federal and state tax controversy and litigation, bankruptcy/creditor rights, and alternative dispute resolution. Additionally, he represents shareholders, members, and partners in business disputes.
Ernest began his career as a trial attorney with the Travelers Insurance Company staff counsel in Philadelphia. As a member of the Commercial Lines Division, he represented corporations and businesses in a variety of insurance defense litigation matters before working as a regional subrogation attorney for Travelers. He later joined the tax consulting practice of Big 4 accounting and tax consulting firm Deloitte & Touché, LLP. Ernest then practiced law, representing clients in transactional, litigation, and planning matters until taking a position with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, Inc.
Ernest served as a neutral (mediator or arbitrator) for the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, the Superior Court of New Jersey, the United States District Court, the Southern District of New York, FINRA, and the American Arbitration Association.
Ernest has lectured to the public, lawyers, and other professionals. He is a faculty member at Rowan University in the college of business.
He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, sailing, tennis and flying. An instrument rated airplane pilot, Ernest has flown a variety of aircraft over the years.
