As discussions surrounding the future of professional golf continue, we are revisiting an article authored by Reger Rizzo & Darnall LLP attorney Michael L. Miranda, originally published in the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law while he was a student at Widener University Delaware Law School and served as Web Editor for Volume 50.

In “Fore, Left! How the PGA Tour Can Navigate Errant Shots Taken by LIV Golf in an Attempt to Poach Their Top Stars,” Michael explores the legal issues surrounding the PGA Tour and LIV Golf rivalry through the lens of Delaware contract law. The article examines how the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing could apply to professional golfers who departed the PGA Tour for LIV Golf, and considers how those legal principles could influence negotiations between the competing organizations.

Although the article was published in March 2025, its discussion of contract law and the business of professional sports remains relevant as the relationship between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf continues to evolve.
