These skills include: the business of law (finding clients, dealing with IOLTA accounts, accounting, etc.); how to deal with difficult lawyers at your firm, including partners; how to effectively communicate with clients (including difficult clients, what to say and what not to say at first meetings, how to staying in touch, and how/why to choose certain cases); as well as legal writing.

On top of the education and skills needed to be effective and efficient, you also need to know how to deal with the latest technology impacting the legal industry, including: online evidence; cloud computing (including how to choose providers, e-mail, and storage of client data); social media policies and procedures, as well as appropriate law firm usage and legal issues related to clients’ social media accounts; filing electronic documents; legal research, when Lexis or WestLaw is not available.

This course has been approved for 5.00 Substantive Credits and 1.00 Ethics Credits.
