RRD Partner Successfully Defends a Motion for Summary Judgment
RRD Partner, Jason S. Garber, successfully defended against Defendant’s Motion for Summary Judgment in a breach of contract case filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Jason represents an English law firm and two barristers who are seeking substantial legal fees in connection with an international arbitration in London. In an unusual move, the Judge not only denied the Defendant’s Motion for Summary Judgment on the claim by the English law firm, and one of the barristers, but instead entered judgment in favor of the barrister and had Jason submit a supplemental brief to quantify the damages.
The Judge did grant the Defendant’s Motion for Summary Judgment as to the second barrister’s claim, but left the door open for that claim to possibly be brought as part of the law firm’s claim.
